Today, an upgrade to the most powerful gaming processor has arrived as AMD officially released the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D. Based on the advanced Zen 5 architecture, this desktop processor features 8 cores and 16 threads. It is equipped with a massive 96MB of L3 cache, including 64MB of stacked 3D V-Cache, designed to dominate.
Boasting a massive boost clock of up to 5.6GHz, the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D delivers a clear improvement over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D’s 5.2GHz. While consistent with its predecessor by maintaining a base clock of 4.7GHz and a TDP of 120W, it offers an average 7% performance improvement in gaming. Despite the slight difference, the company states that both chips will coexist in the product line for the foreseeable future.
Crushing the competition, the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D claims to offer 27% better average gaming performance (1080p high settings) than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K. Furthermore, it delivers a massive 60% better performance in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Setting the stage for a new era, Alienware revealed that a desktop version of the Area-51 PC equipped with the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D will launch in February. While AMD has not yet announced pricing information, the company stated that the chip will be available in the first quarter of 2026.
